Education - Higher Ed

Project: Old Main Restoration - Arkansas Baptist College
Location: Little Rock, AR
Architect: SMC Architects

This 4-story historic monument (approx 17,000 square feet) was originally built in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It was re-constructed in 1893 after a fire.  The project will be delivered in two phases. Phase 1 consists of extensive exterior repairs such as restoration of the exterior brick and stone, restoration of wood cornices, replacement of all windows and exterior doors, replacement of asphalt shingles with slate shingles, and re-building the north and south entrances (porches) to match the original façade of the building.  The interior work includes demolition of all ceilings to expose floor joists, demolition of non load- bearing partitions, and demolition of existing floor coverings. The renovated first floor will include multi-purpose areas, bookstore, internet area, and study rooms. Phase 2 will include the renovation of the remaining floors (2-4).


Project: Henderson State University Recreation Center
Location: Arkadelphia, Arkansas
Architect: SCM Architects, P.A.

This 39,000 square foot Recreation Center is composed of conventional steel with steel roof joist and deck. The exterior is a combination of brick veneer and rock. This recreational facility will provide the students with a ¼ mile elevated walking track with specialized rubber athletic flooring, three basketball courts, a state-of-the-art weight room, cardiovascular room, multi-purpose room, activities area, climbing wall and room for intramural sports.


Project: OBU Pedestrian Bridge
Location: Arkadelphia, Arkansas
Architect: Clements & Associates Architecture, Inc.

Ouachita Baptist University requested a new 300 foot pedestrian bridge to replace the existing, aging bridge. After demolition of the existing bridge, this structural pre-cast bridge was constructed in three 100 foot sections. The new bridge includes a brick façade and features engraved names of OBU graduates in its 8 inch concrete topping slab. Spanning a 49 foot ravine, the bridge is located near the new residence halls, also built by Kinco. 


Project: Old Main Restoration - University of Arkansas
Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas

The most recognizable structure and focal point of the University of Arkansas campus and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The scope of work included replacing the existing roof with a standing seam copper roof, repair slate on mansard, north and south tower cedar shake roofs were removed and replace with slate tile, tuck point and restoration of all brick and wood work at towers and the east elevation, installation of 3 precast clock faces and relocation of the clock and original bell

 


Project: Pat Walker Health Center
Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas
Architect: Polk Stanley Rowland Curzon Porter Architects, LTD

A new 38,000 square foot multi-level health facility located on the University of Arkansas campus. The building has exam rooms, X-ray labs, doctor’s offices, consulting rooms and research/educational facilities.


Project: Vol Walker Hall Renovation
Location: University of Arkansas - Fayetteville
Architect: John Milner Associates, Inc.

Vol Walker Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This renovation includes three emergency stairwells addressing the life safety issues. A third floor was also added providing a 2,700 SF expansion to house administrative offices. Great care was taken to preserve the historic value of this 1935 building that houses the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas.


Project: Phi Delta Theta Renovation
Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas
Architect: Yeary Lindsey Architects

Renovation to this two story brick building includes many updates and additions.  Located on the campus of the University of Arkansas this renovation will include a new dining hall, added stairwell, completely updated kitchen, grand entry portico, and new bedroom furnishings are just a few of the improvements that will bring both form and function to this fraternity house.  New finishes are included throughout the house along with new doors, windows and operable shutters. The exterior brickwork of the historic building will be cleaned and repaired. New roofing, gutters, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems will also be installed. This project is aiming for LEED Silver Certification equivalency through sustainable design and building practices.  Renovations on this 20,000SF building completed in the fall of 2009 prior to the start of the school year.


Project: Arkansas State University Campus
Location: Mountain Home, Arkansas
Architect: The Wilcox Group

The construction of this new campus included four multi-story buildings covering approximately 100,000 square foot. These facilities were utilized for classrooms, laboratory research, library, dining rooms, administration offices, bookstore, labs and lecture halls. The project won the Excellence in Construction Award from Associated Builders and Contractors in 2000.
